Until 2011 the Parish Walk photo archives were published at fotopic.net but the site went out of business early in the year. The photos (and many more) have been republished on Murray Lambden's
Manx photos site.
Unlike at the previous site, the full size images are published allowing greater detail in the photos. You can download the photos for personal use (you can then print them locally) or you can order prints directly from the site via Photobox.co.uk If you live in the Isle
of Man then it is cheaper to select the UK as your country (with Isle of Man as a county) than to select Isle of Man as a country. I cannot change the postage fees which all go to Photobox.
The photos are modestly priced and all the profits are donated to charity. I pay all the hosting fees at zenfolio.com and the profit is the difference between what you pay and the amount retained by Photobox and Zenfolio.
Thanks to the assistance of Mike Lambden at the Parish Walk and Neil Wilson at the End to End Walk, I have so far made the following donations:
July 2011 - Hospice Isle of Man £300
November 2011 - Cystic Fibrosis £300
I am not claiming that the photos are of professional standard and the main objective remains to add to your enjoyment of the event by sharing the photos with you as soon as possible (first photos are usually online at about 08.30). If you do buy any, however, you will be helping charity. For example if you download a file for £1 then 90p will go directly to a charity.
I'm grateful to Manx Telecom for providing the facility to upload photos from around the course (videos, blog, Twitter, Facebook etc too) but even with this facility the full size files are too big to upload (before the arrival of Manx Telecom's 4G network the following year). So I will upload the 2012 Parish Walk photos in two stages. Initially the files will be loaded in a small file size (about 100kb)
and then the full files will be uploaded from Sunday onwards (2 to 3MB). Please bear this mind before you place your orders - they are all the same price but you will get a better quality image if you wait for the large files.
Unlike big city events where the organisers sell the photo rights to a large professional firm who then have exclusive rights to sell individual images, any professional or amateur photographer can take photos at the Manx Telecom Parish Walk, and if selling them to the public, make a profit on their own account. This page contains links to professional and amateur sites without recommending one over another.
Links to photo galleries at fotopic.net have been removed so there are fewer links remaining than in previous years. I haven't deliberately omitted any sites so if you would like me to add others then just email the link to murray@manxathletics.com
