The Clerical Medical Parish Walk - organising page

Clerical Medical have sponsored the Parish Walk since 1990.  The 2009 Clerical Medical Parish Walk will therefore be their 20th year of support.  In addition to direct financial support for the event, they bring the marketing and organisational skills that have so dramatically raised the profile of the walk. In 2006 there were more finishers in the Parish Walk than there were starters in the first year of Clerical Medical's sponsorship. That says it all.

Manx Telecom are sponsoring the electronic timing for the event for the third time in 2009. The service provided by way of online timing and text messaging to two of each walkers nominated supporters is unequalled in any athletic event worldwide. You can read more on the information page.

SPORTident provide the timing equipment and the software and technical support. They were chosen ahead of other timing suppliers because of their track record in providing bespoke solutions.  You can read more on the information page.

Manx Harriers are the largest athletics club on the Isle of Man and are based at the National Sports Centre in Douglas.  A sub committee of the club organise the Clerical Medical Parish Walk and hundreds of their members, as well as many very valuable volunteers from other clubs and outside the sport, assist with the organisation.  Any surplus from the Parish Walk budget is applied to the running costs of the club.

Another new supporter of the event in 2008 was Colebourn TV who provided computers and large TV screens to allow spectators at the finish to follow the progress of the walkers.

Feeding Stations

Several local companies provide resources and manpower for the feeding stations along the course. In 2008 the following companies sponsorsed the feeding stations:

Barclays Private Clients

3 FM

Rushen Round Table have been providing their skills at he Round Table feeding stations for several years.

Finally, one of the unique features of the event is the number of individuals who provide refreshments free of charge from their houses along the course.

Other sponsors and supporters

The intention is to try and acknowledge the role of as many people as possible who contribute to the Clerical Medical Parish Walk and as many lists of helpers and sponsors as possible will  be published here when confirmed.

The state owned radio station, Manx Radio, provides live updates from around the course.  With the introduction of electronic timing and text messaging their role might appear to be diminishing but instead it has given them the ability to provide much more information to their listeners than ever before to add to their reports and interviews from around the course.

To say that Isle of Man Newspapers provide extensive coverage of the Clerical Medical Parish Walk would be an understatement. Their three weekly papers cover the previews, results and reports, photo spreads, and sponsorship presentations.
