A dream is realised

In 1990 I wrote a development plan for the Parish Walk as part of the sponsorship negotiations with Clerical Medical. Although a computerised results service provided by Skanco had been introduced which in theory allowed the generation of split times, there was a problem in that the times were only recorded by clock time and to the nearest minute. I wrote: "Accurate times should be taken at all churches. The usual helpers could still do their job at churches but a stop watch time should be taken in addition. At present our results processing allows us to record split times between churches but this is of limited value without coordinated timing."

Now thanks to Manx Telecom's sponsorship and the wonderful service provided by Sport Ident, I am able to publish the split times for all finishers.

I also suggested that times from churches could be radioed or telephoned from various churches to Rushen and  Peel - wow how times have changed!  Murray Lambden
