THE PARISH WALK TOP 10
NUMBER 2 SANDRA BROWN

How can you possibly compare men and women's performances? Well, I have analysed world record performances at all distances from 100 metres to the marathon and the women's records are generally a little over 10% of the men's. 10% of Sean Hand's record time would be 16:16:16 and Sandra was just 20 seconds slower than this.
When you consider that Sandra was taking part in the 1998 100 walk in which the Parish Walk merely constituted the first 85 (they had to walk up and down the promenade for the final 15 miles) and it was her first ever attempt at the Parish Walk, then she certainly has a claim to be the greatest ever Parish Walker.
Using the same comparison between men and women as Paula Radcliffe has achieved in the marathon, however, her time would need to be 16:02 to rank equal to Sean Hand's. I've decided that because she has only done it once (and Sean has repeatedly posted good times) and there is no certainty that she would have walked faster without the extra 15 miles, I have ranked her behind Sean. But even using the Paula Radcliffe formula she is within 15 minutes of Sean's time and so therefore should be ranked higher than Derek Harrison and Robbie Callister. A remarkable woman.
