THE PARISH WALK TOP 10 NUMBER 1 SEAN HANDS
I've chosen Sean Hands as the greatest Parish Walker of all time not just because he is the fastest ever to complete the 85 miles, not just because he beat Derek Harrison's record after 27 years but because I have analysed the way the course record has been improved over the past 40 years. In 1967, Albert Johnson took 15:54:51 to walk the course. 38 years later, this time had only improved by 34 minutes. In 14:47:36, Sean Hands improved this time by almost as much in one go - 0:33:15. The record breaking performance is backed up with an incredible average finishing time for the past three years of 15:29:14. After moving up the Parish Walk list of fastest time list to fifth in 2005, a few weeks later he won the Centurion's 100 mile walk. After setting the fastest time ever in the Parish Walk he retained that title. As sure as Derek Harrison's record was going to be beaten, so will Sean's. But until it is, he will surely remain the greatest Parish Walker to date. Sean's Parish Walk record:
